Although many garment owners responded to the call of the Commerce Minister to clear workers’ salaries for the month of March within April 16 instead of retrenchment, they think it will be challenging to reach the salary to them in the current situation.
The government extended general holiday till April 14 to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the country.
During the period, a few number of selective banks will remain open only for three hours.
All the banks are scheduled to open on April 15.
The owners think it will be a great challenge for them to reach salary to all the workers in a day as most of them are nown in their village homes.
Many workers have no bank accounts and making salary sheet is time consuming, they said. Moreover, paying salary to a huge number of workers through bkash at a time will create some complications.
But, salaries can be paid by April 20-25, the owners said.
Earlier on Tuesday, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi requested the factory owners to pay the workers' salaries within April 16 instead of sacking them.
