People of 20 Lalmonirhat villages on self lockdown

LALMONIRHAT: Inhabitants of 20 villages under five upazilas of Lalmonirhat district on Tuesday put themselves on voluntary lockdown to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

The villagers said none could leave or enter the villages during this self-imposed lockdown.

They also formed a volunteer committee at each village to monitor the strict enforcement of the lockdown.

The villagers closed down all the entry and exist points into and from their respective villages by putting bamboo-made barricades.

Pradip Kumar Roy, a villager of Paschim Barua village, said they decided to impose lockdown on themselves for the greater interests of their people after talking to all the inhabitants of the villages.

Abdul Khaleque of Shatirpar village, said everyone is coming forward in need of one another during the lockdown.

The villages which went for self-lockdown are Mandirapara, Madanerchak, Shibram, Aambari, Folimari, Shotibari, Chaprol, Chaklarhat, Parshurampara, Tangvanga, Naodabash, Barokhata, Shafirhat, Kotali, Shirampur, Jhora and Sarkarerhat.
