Workers asked to open mobile banking accounts in 14 days

DHAKA: Bangladesh Bank has instructed to open mobile banking accounts of all workers and employees of export-oriented industries and factories within the next 14 days.
The stimulus package announced by the government as well as salaries and allowances will be sent to these accounts, said the central bank in a circular issued by its Payment System Division.
The circular was sent to all the chief executives of all scheduled banks and mobile financial service providers of the country. It also called for ensuring the opening of mobile accounts of the workers and employees of all export-oriented industries and factories by April 20 so that the salaries and allowances can be paid through the accounts.
The workers and employees will require to submit their national identity cards or birth certificates.
However, the scheduled banks and mobile financial service providers will not be able to take any charge or fees to open such mobile banking accounts.
Bangladesh Bank has also suggested to take necessary steps to create awareness and insist the customers to open mobile banking accounts.
