Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Monday expressed dissatisfaction over his unawareness of the activities of the 'National committee on COVID-19' as its chief.
The minister came up with his heplessness in an emergency meeting with the government and private health organisations held at the BCPS Bhaban in city's Mohakhali.
"I was made the chairman of the national committee aimed at preventing the spread of the deadly coronavirus. But, the decisions undertaken by the committee is not to our knowledge. We're not discussed befor reopening of garments factories, opening and closure of roads or abou congregation in mosques. No other issues except health are discussed with us," he said.
The government announced shutdown of all offices and workplaces for 10 days from March 26 in order to stop the spread of coronavirus . The shutdown, later, extended till April 11.
But, despite the order, RMG factory owners decided to keep their factories open. RMG workers in hundreds came back to Dhaka from different districts to join work amid the fear of contagion that drew huge criticism.
Replying to questions from journalists regarding the committee's measures over the workers' return to Dhaka, Minister Zahid Maleque expressed such frustration.
