2 suspected criminals killed in 'Naogaon gunfight'
Two suspected criminals were killed in separate incidents of gunfight with police in Atrai and Patnitala upazilas of Naogaon district early Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Minhajul Islam alias Mintu alias Shikdar, 36, a resident of Bhar Tentulia village in Atrai upazila and Zahidul Islam, 38, of Balukha area in Patnitala upazila.
Atrai Police Station officer in-charge Moselm Uddin said Minhajul is an accused in 10 cases, including of murder. Police arrested him from his house on Wednesday night.
Later, police alongwith Minhajul conducted a drive at Tilabaduri village to recover arms.
Sensing the presence of the team, Minhajul's cohorts opened fire at police team, forcing them to fire back in self-defence.
After ending of gun battle, the law enforcers recovered the bullet-hit body of Minhajul from the scene, OC Moslem said.
Police also recovered a foreign pistol, four bullets and two magazines from the spot.
In Patnitala, police arrested Zahidul, an accused in 12 criminal cases, and later alongwith him raided Bakrail village to recover drugs.
Sensing the presence of the team, the drug traders opened fire at police team, forcing them to fire back, said Patnitala Police Station OC Parimal Kumar Chakrabarty.
Zahidul was killed during the gun-battle.
However, a shutter gun, two bullets, 985 Yaba tablets and four sharp weapons were recovered from the spot, the OC added.
