RAJSHAHI: A mobile court in Rajshahi on Wednesday fined Japan Tobacco International (JTI) Tk 10,000 for violating the government's order of shutting down its office.

The mobile court, led by executive magistrate of the district administration Shaila Sayeed Tanni, conducted a drive in a depot of the JTI Bangladesh in Upashahar area of the city and found the office remained opened violating the government order.

Magistrate Shaila Sayeed Tanni said the government announced general holidays to prevent spread of coronavirus, but the JTI in Bangladesh kept its office opened violating the rule and forcing its employees to continue to remain in office, specially at a time when nationwide lockdown was going on amid deadly coronavirus outbreak..

The drive will continue against violating the government instructions, she added.
