At least fifty shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Banargati Bazar area in Khulna city early Wednesday.

At least fifty shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Banargati Bazar area in Khulna city early Wednesday.

Locals said the fire originated from gas leakage of cylinder at a tea stall at Banargati kitchen market in the city around 1:30 am and soon engulfed adjacent 50 shops including of 20 grocery and 30 essential commodities.

On information, five fire fighter units from Boyra and Tutpara Fire Stations went to the spot and doused the fire after one hour of frantic effort, said senior officer of Khulna’s Boyra Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Officer Sayeeduzzaman said.

Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque, District Relief and Disaster Officer Azizul Islam Zoarder and secretary of city unit Awami League MDA Babul Rana visited the spot, said general secretary of Banargati kitchen market Mojibor Rahman.
