The government has started tracking coronavirus infected persons and identifying virus-affected areas by using digital maps. Using these digital maps, the mobile operators have recently been able to know that 110 million people left Dhaka for their village homes after the government declared general holidays in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.
Telecommunications Minister Mostofa Jabbar said the Access to Information (a2i), National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC), Minitry of Health, Ministry of Home Affairs and the mobile operators are working to track coronavirus infected persons and affected areas. It is being done using the digital maps of Bangladeh. "After giving all the input of information along with the maps, we will be able to identify the infected persons even if he leaves the risk-prone areas."
The NMTC said mobile phone operator Robi first started to work with the method. Afterward, other mobile phone operators were involved in it.
Under the method, five questions will be sent to all mobile phone subscribers in the country. The questions are what is age; if they have any breathing problem; if they have fever or cough; if they have come in contact with someone who returned from abroad recently; and if they have come close to any coronavirus-infected person.
The subscribers will be able to send replies to the questions in the form of SMS. They will also be able to make mobile calls. They will be able to inform dialling *3332# without any charge from their mobile phones. All the calls will be toll-free.
Internet users will also be able to send the information entering the address of 'http://corona.gov.bd/'. Besides, they will be able to send information using the mobile apps of bKash, GP, Robi, Banglalink and Uber. None will have to wait for hours to convey the information. The subscribers will be able to do it instantly.
If an individual carries coronavirus, it can spread all over easily. It can also be known using the digital maps.
