Four suspected drug peddlers were killed in separate incidents of gunfight in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar on Friday night.

Teknaf BGB-2 commander Lt Col Mohammad Faysal Hasan Khan confirmed the matter on Saturday morning.

He said on secret information that a large consignment of Yaba tablets was entering the country through Teknaf border, a team of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) took position in the Naf River at night.

The team challenged a boat carrying four to five suspected drug smugglers.

Sensing presence of the BGB members, the gang opened fire on them forcing the team to fire back that triggered a gun-battle.

Later, the BGB men rescued three bullet-injured persons from the scene and took them to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors declared the trio dead.

Around 1,80,000 Yaba pills, two guns, cartridges and a machete were recovered from the spot.

Meanwhile, a 'drug trader' named Musa Akbar, 36, was also killed in the gunfight with police.
