The government has decided to free BNP chief Khaleda Zia from prison suspending her jail term for six months following a plea by her siblings.
"Khaleda Zia's brother sister and family members have met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and pleaded to set the BNP chief free under executive power," said Law Minister Anisul Huq while addressing a press briefing at his office in Dhaka on Tuesday.
"Recently her (Khaleda's) brother made an appeal through the Home ministry seeking her release on the executive order where he mentioned about her treatment in London," said the minister.
Later Khaleda's brother Shamim Iskandar, sister Selima Islam and her husband Rafiqul Islam have met the Prime Minister and talked about their plea, he added.
The government has decided to set the BNP Chairperson free suspending her jail term for six months on humanitarian ground in view of her age.
