The local administration has imposed a lockdown in Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha in an effort to stop the spread of coronavirus as two foreign returnees tested positive.
The upazila administration made the announcement on Sunday following an information that two US-returnees, who have tested positive for coronavirus, attended a wedding programme.
Sadullapur UNO M Nabi Newaz confirmed the matter.
In an order, the UNO said,"Two expatriate relatives of one Kazal Mandal, a resident of Hobibullahpur village under no-9 Bongram union in Sadullapur upazila, have attended the wedding ceremony of his sister. They both tested positive for coronavirus. Some 400-500 people have been invited in the programme."
"Later, the by-election to Gaibandha-3 constituency was held on March 21. It was informed that an unspecified number of people who attended the wedding also cast votes thus can cause rapid spread of the virus. Under the circumstances, Upazila Corona Prevention Ccommittee has unanimously taken the decision to put the upazila under lockdown for safety of the common people," it added.
