HC orders to declare coronavirus as epidemic

High Court has expressed its surprise over the delay in declaring deadly coronavirus as an 'epidemic.'
If possible, the High Court in a directive asked for publishing a gazette declaring the coronavirus in Bangladesh as an epidemic by today (Wednesday).
A HC bench of Justice Md Ashraful Kamal and Justice Sarder Md Rashed Jahangir issued the directive following a hearing on a writ submitted to the High Court on Wednesday.
The bench also said rule over the writ would be issued tomorrow (Thursday).
Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol took part in the hearing on behalf of the writ petitioner. He was assisted by Humayun Kabir Pallab.
Supreme Court lawyer Humayun Kabir Pallab submitted the writ petition seeking the closure of all courts of the country including the Supreme Court for protection from coronavirus.
Besides, a directive was sought for keeping the returnees from abroad in quarantine mandatorily.
In the writ, 10 persons were made respondents including Law Secretary, Home Secretary, Health Secretary, Supreme Court Registrar General, Dhaka Medical College Principal and BSMMU Vice-Chancellor.
