Ensure proper treatment and prevent spreading of the deadly disease here

The number of Coronavirus (COVID-19) infected patients has soared in the country as per the latest news after indentifying the first affected person on 8 March. Although anxiety existed among people on the issue, Bangladesh was out of the sphere of this deadly virus till March 7. Even though late, the virus has finally entered the country, spreading panic among millions of people. The nation has witnessed considerable number of deaths and nationwide concern due to the epidemic caused by dengue fever last year. This year coronavirus has evolved as a new phenomenon--imposing the apprehension to spread. According to latest media reports a staggering 3, 996 people have died of the deadly disease while infecting 113,605 people worldwide-most of the deceased and infected are in China.

However, the perilous virus has intruded more than a hundred national borders since the beginning of its outbreak in China in last December. Even developed countries could not defend themselves from this pestilence. Because of human beings being the vector of the disease, spread of the virus becomes much easier and more difficult to fight. Amid the fear of spreading the virus in Bangladesh, the country on last Monday imposed a ban on issuing on arrival visas to passengers arriving from China, Italy, South Korea and Iran. Rather optimistically, the Coronavirus patients of more than half of the one hundred plus affected countries have started to recover.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged people not to be alarmed and remain calm.  We hope that government will prove its ability by quelling the spread of this virus. COVID-19 causes mainly respiratory illness, according to the WHO. We advise to consult physicians whoever senses the symptoms of coronavirus such as fever, throat-ache, dry cough, breathing complications. Most importantly, an affected parson should not go outside without musk.

We would hope that our health authorities have taken all necessary measures to prevent the spread of this virus in the country including a 100 per cent screening of incoming passengers at all ports of entry. Furthermore, we have to employ doctors and staffs who can treat the patients in a timely manner and take the necessary precautions to stop it from spreading. The affected persons should be quarantined. Finally, we all should resort to preventive methods, not panic. Being panicked is not a solution but being vigilant is.
