Three killed in Jashore, Feni 'gunfights'
Three suspected 'robbers' were killed in 'gunbattles' with police in Jashore and Feni.
Our Jashore Correspondent reports: A suspected robber was killed in gunfight with police at Begaritola under Monirampur upazila in Jashore district early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Nurul Huq Keru, son of late Mazed Gazi Baksh of village Bhojgati under Monirampur upazila.
Police claimed that they had recovered arms, bullets and sharp weapons from the spot.
Monirampur Policee Station sub-inspector Shahinur Islam said a police team of Keshabpur Police Station launched a drive with Nurul Huq Keru to "nab his accomplices." At that time, Keru was killed in a gunfight with police. Later, the body was sent to Jessore General Hospital morgue.
Keshabpur Police Station officer-in-charge Jasim Uddin said local nabbed Nurul Huq Keru when he was trying to mug an easybike at Chingkhali area under the upazila late Thurday morning. Later, he was handed over to police.
"Nurul Huq Keru was an identified robber. There are 10 robbery cases against him. He was also a warranted accused in an arms case," said OC Jasim Uddin.
He said Keru told the police about his accomplices and arms during interrogation at the police station. Later, a joint team of police force took him with them and launched a drive. When they reached at in front of Sardarbari Nursery at Begaritola, Keru's accomplice opened fire at police. At one stage , Keru fell in the line of crossfire and bullets pierced through his body. Later, police found the dead body of Keru lying on the road and sent it to the hospital morgue.
The OC also said they recovered a one shooter gun, one round of bullet and four sharp knives from the spot.
Preparation was going on to file a case in this regard.
Our Feni Correspondent reports: Two suspected robbers were allegedly killed in a gunfight at village Uttar Mongolkandi under Sonagazi upazila in Feni district early Friday.
Sonagazi Model Police Station officer-in-charge Moinuddin Ahmed said a patrol police team went to Bismillah Brickfield at village Uttar Mongolkandi early Friday morning and found two bullet-ridden persons were lying there.
They were rushed to Sonagazi Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor pronounced them dead.
Though the OC could not tell the identities of the deceased instantly, he said, "Gunbattles might have happened between two groups of dacoits over establishing supremacy in the area. Police seized two one barrel guns, and a round of cartridge from the spot, he said.
