Order to seize bank accounts of PK Halder, 19 others upheld

The Supreme Court has upheld the High Court order to freeze the bank accounts and seize passports of 20 persons including Prashanta Kumar Halder, former Managing Director of NRB Global Bank and Reliance Finance Ltd.
An SC bench led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order after dismissing an appeal filed by International Leasing and Financial Services Limited (ILFSL), a non-bank financial institution.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state while Barrister Tanjib Ul Alam for Bangladesh Bank and lawyer Ahsanul Karim on behalf of ILFSL.
On January 21, the High Court gave directives to the authorities concerned to freeze the bank accounts and seize passports of 20 persons including PK Halder.
The other 19 accused are present shareholder directors and top executives of International Leasing and Finance Service Limited- MA Hashem, M Nurul Alam, Md Zahirul Alam, Nasim Anwar, Bashudeb Banerjee, Papia Banerjee, Momtaz Begum, Md Nowsherul Islam, Md Anwarul Kabir, Engr Md Nuruzzaman, Md Abul Hashem, Rashedul Haque, PK Halder’s mother Lilaboti Halder, brother Pritish Kumar Halder, wife Sushmita Saha, cousins Amitav Adhikari, Abhijit Adhikari, former managing director of Bank Asia Erfanuddin Ahmed and one Uzzal Kumar Nandi.
