Papiya, 3 others put on 15 days' remand in 3 cases

A Dhaka court has placed sacked Jubo Mahila League general secretary Shamima Nur Papiya and three others on 15 days' remand in three cases.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masudur Rahman granted the remand order on Monday.
The other accused are Papiya's her husband Mofizur Rahman Chowdhury Sumon, 38, and their associates Sabbir Khandokar and Sheikh Tayeba.
Earlier, the investigation officer of the case filed with Airport Police Station produced the accused before the court seeking 10 days' remand for each.
On the other hand, Papiya's lawyers sought bail for their clients.
After hearing both sides, the court granted five days' remand each in three cases for all the three accused.
On Saturday, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members arrested them from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The elite force also recovered counterfeit notes, foreign currencies, and around Tk 2.5 lakh from their possessions.
Later on Sunday, the RAB men raided Papiya's Indira Road flat and recovered a foreign pistol, two magazines, 20 bullets, five bottles foreign liquor, Tk 58.41 lakh in cash, five passports, three cheques, some foreign currencies and 10 ATM cards of different banks.
