15 shops gutted in Noakhali fire

A fire burned down around 15 shops in Noahat Bazar area of Sadar upazila in Noakhali early Wednesday.
The fire originated around 11:00 pm from a shop of oil and gas in Taher Mia Market and soon engulfed adjoining shops.

On information, two firefighting units from Maijdee and Laxmipur Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot and doused the fire after two hours of frantic efforts, said senior station officer of Maijdee Fire Service and Civil Defence Azizul Haque.

Taher Mia Market manager Morshed Alam said around 15 shops, including a rice mill, were gutted down that damaged around Tk 1 crore.

Shop owners suspect that the fire might have originated from an electric short-circuit.
