BSEC picks up 6 Independent Directors for DSE
Bangladesh Securities Exchange Commission (BSEC) has finalized names of six Independent Directors of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Tuesday.
In a letter to the DSE the BSEC the directors include the incumbent and also former secretaries, university professors, bankers and entrepreneurs.
A BSEC statement said two of the six Independent Directors are-Md Yunsur Rahman, former senior secretary at the Finance Division in the Ministry of Finance and Salma Nasrin Additional Secretary of the same ministry.
Two other Independent Directors are Professor Dr AKM Masud of the Industrial and Production department in BUET and Professor Md Masudur Rahman of Marketing Department, Dhaka. The rest two director are Habibullah Bahar, former economic advisor of Bangladesh Bank and Md Muntakim Ashraf, senior vice president of the apex trade organization FBCCI.
Earlier the DSE sent the names of 18 people to the BSEC for picking six independent directors from them for the bourse for next three years.
The DSE's board of directors at a meeting on February 6 approved the 18 names and decided to send the list to the securities market regulator for picking six names.
The tenure of the previous six independent directors ended on February 13. The tenure of one of the directors, however, could be extended for another three-year term as per rules. The DSE list also contained his name.
The DSE nomination and remuneration committee on February 3 initially selected 22 persons for the list but two of them later withdrew their applications. The DSE also dropped names two other persons.
The DSE proposed namesincluded former senior secretary Eunusur Rahman, former Bangladesh Bank executive director Habibullah Bahar, former Agrani Bank chairman Khondoker Bazlul Hoque, former law ministry additional secretary Nasreen Begum, additional secretaries (PRL) Salma Nasreen and Sultan Mahmud, and former police superintendent Mahbub Uddin Ahmed. It also includes FBCCI senior vice-president Muntakim Ashraf, FBCCI director Sharita Millat, former DCCI president Abdul Momen, chartered accountant Ahmed Sheikh Roy and Co partner
Sabbir Ahmed, Rahimafrooz Group Chief Financial Officer Mohammad Zahid Hossain, Aero Vision Bangladesh Managing Director Arik Morshed, Technohaven Company Limited founder and CEO Habibullah Neyamul Karim.
BUET Industrial and Production Engineering Department Professor AKM Masud, BUET computer science and engineering department professor Mohammad Ameer Ali, DSE' existing independent director Masudur Rahman and Dhaka University computer science and technology department professor Muhammad Asif Hossain Khan are also on the list.
DSE officials said that all were high-profile persons and it was difficult for the premier bourse to reduce the list.
