Taposh unveils 5-point manifesto to revive Dhaka

Awami League-backed Dhaka South mayoral candidate Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has pledged to transform the capital into a vibrant and well-governed city while preserving its heritage in his manifesto for the upcoming Dhaka elections.

Taposh unveiled a five-point manifesto at the Awami League headquarters in Dhaka's Bangabandhu Avenue on Wednesday, reports bdnews24.com.

Dhaka has turned into a unplanned and polluted city due to the negligence and mismanagement by its authorities, said Taposh.

He promised to restore Dhaka to its full glory as a ‘traditional, beautiful, vibrant, well-governed and developed' city if elected.

Drawing on the city's 400-year history, Taposh highlighted Dhaka's potential to become a popular tourist attraction with its traditional food, festivals and archaeological sites.

Beautification of the city is also a point of emphasis in the manifesto with plans to create more parks and green spaces while promoted rooftop gardening.

"Apart from preventing noise and air pollution, we will take steps to build playgrounds, gyms, libraries, walkways for women, children and the elderly, and community centres with modern facilities in every ward," said Taposh.

He also promised to clamp down on illegal encroachment of canals and other water bodies in the city.

Improving the city's waste management system, drainage system, water reservoir and addressing the issue of waterlogging are also high on Taposh's mayoral agenda.
