HC issues rules against Trust One Hospital

The High Court on Monday issued a rule asking ‘Trust One Hospital’ of Maizdi in Noakhali to explain in four weeks that why it should not be directed to compensate Tk 25 lakh to the patient, who was a victim of unnecessary operation in the hospital.
The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader issued the rule following a writ petition filed by a victim’s father Jamal Hossain.
The court also asked the secretaries of the ministries of health and home and Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services to respond to the rule as to why appropriate legal actions should not be taken against the hospital authorities and involved for negligence.
Lawyer Md. J.R. Khan (Robin) accompanied by lawyer Shammi Akter stood for the petitioner while Deputy Attorney General ABM Abdullah Al Bashar represented the state in the court.
According to the petition, on June 8 last year, Rima Sultana Nipa was admitted to the Trust One hospital at Maizdi with labour pain.
Later on June 9, the hospital authority conducted her surgery. But, she had no physical complication even operation was not necessary.
She was admitted again to the same hospital with injury in the surgery area, which was not cured completely. However they did not take any step when the hospital authorities and the concerned doctor were informed.
On June 20, doctors of BRB Hospital in Dhaka conducted her second surgery and she was cured completely. Medical team of BRB Hospital termed her first surgery as ‘unnecessary’
