BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is being treated with utmost sincerity as a patient without considering her political or personal identities.
“A medical board has been working relentlessly and sincerely to provide Khaleda Zia the best treatment here putting aside all her identities,” said a press release sent by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Director Brig Gen AK Mahbubul Haque today.
All previous information and statements regarding Khaleda Zia’s treatment released or aired in media were media’s individual perception; there is no connection between media and medical board’s statements, the release added.
Mentioning Khaleda’s knee-replacement operation conducted on both her knees in 2009 and 2012, the release informed that she (Khaleda) was advised by medical board to take time-befitting medicines along with advanced medical care in order to reduce her arthritis pain.
Her health condition is not improving as per expectation in the last several months as she has not paid heed to the advices given by the medical board for relief from the arthritis pain, the release added.
In fact, the board frequently requests Begum Zia to follow their advices, but she does not listen to them, the release added.
However, her physical complications in term of dental pain and diabetes have improved significantly in the last 10 months (approximately).
Currently, she is undergoing treatment at the BSMMU under a medical board comprising seven-member experts, including eminent Prof Syed Atqiul Haq of rheumatology department at BSMMU and Zilon Mia Sarker, dean of the faculty of medicine at the university.
Besides, as per the wish of Khaleda Zia, Associate Prof Shamim Ahmed of rheumatology department and her personal physician Dr Mamunur Rahman are regularly taking care of her health consulting with medical board, the release informed.
