AL-BNP clash in Gopibagh during campaign

Supporters of Awami League and BNP clashed in city's Gopibagh area when the both parties were conducting their election campaign on Sunday that left several leaders and activists of both groups injured.
The clash ensued at about 1pm near the Central Women's College.
BNP's mayoral candidate Ishraq Hossain's press secretary Khurshid Alam blamed rival Awami League for unleashing the attack around 1pm on them while campaigning.An altercation took place between the followers of AL-backed 39 ward councilor candidate Rokonuddin and Ishraq in the area when the parties were conducting their election campaign.
At one stage of altercation, supporters of both leaders equipped with sticks started throwing brickbats and pounded each other. Blank fire was also heard at that time, said witnesses.
A chase and counter chase continued from 12:50pm to 1:25pm. Later, police went to the scene and took the situation under control.
AL supporters alleged that Ishraq's supporters chanted instigating slogans while BNP followers alleged that the rival group attacked their peaceful electioneering without any provocation.
