'Drug peddler' killed in 'shootout'

A suspected drug trader was killed in a gunfight with policemen in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Md Nasir alias Munna, 30, a resident of East Satghoria Para. 

Three policemen were also injured in the gunfight that took place in Nayabazar near the Naf River at night.

Tipped off, a large consignment of Yaba pills from Myanmar was entering into Bangladesh, a team of the law enforcers took position in the area.

Sensing presence, the drug gang started firing to the police. The law enforcers also fired back in self defence, leaving four injured.

Three policemen and Munna were admitted to Upazila Sadar Hospital. Munna, later, was shifted to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where he was declared dead.

Teknaf Model Police Station OC Pradeep Kumar Das said Yaba tablets, local weapons and cartridges were recovered from the scene.
