2 KU students held for Neo JMB links
Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) has arrested two students of Khulna University (KU) for their suspected link to banned militant outfit Neo-Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
KMP commissioner Dr Khandakar Lutful Kabir confirmed this at a press conference held at its headquarters in the city on Saturday.
The arrested men are Nur Mohammad Anik, 24, of Ghior upazila of Manikganj and Md Mojahidul Islam Rafi, 23, of Shibganj upazila of Bagura. The duo are the 4th year students of BBA and Statistics Discipline of the university.
The KMP boss said on secret information, a special team of police raided the ground floor of a three-storey building of Hasnahena in Old Gallamary area in the city and arrested the militants from there around 4.30am.
They were involved in a bomb attack at a police car garage at Arongghata Police Station that carried out on December 5, 2019, Khandakar Lutful said.
During interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in Neo JMB for a long and involved in various criminal activities in the region.
Police seized explosives, jihadi books, a laptop, two remote controls, 144 match boxes, electronic instruments, an LED TV, 3 CD player and leaflets from their possessions.
They will be sent to the court seeking remand in bomb attack case filed with Arongghata Police Station, the police official said.
