City slum fire: Burnt victim dies

A woman, who was severely burnt in Friday's fire at Chalantika slum in Mirpur, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Parvin, 35.

DMCH police outpost inspector Md Bacchu Mia said Parvin, with 90 per cent burn injuries, died at the burn unit around 8am.

Fire Service and Civil Defence control room said the fire broke out at the slum on Mirpur-7 road around 4:11am on Saturday and soon spread rapidly.

Locals said more than 100 shanties were gutted in the fire.

A portion of the same slum was destroyed in fire in August last year.
