A devastating fire on Friday destroyed a total of 377 shanties injuring two persons at Chalantika Jhilpar slum in Dhaka’s Mirpur-7.

“The blaze started around 4:00am. A total of 15 fire fighting units rushed to the spot and managed to douse the fire by around 5:45am,” duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence control room Ershad Hossain told BSS.

“The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be known immediately,” he said.

A five-member committee headed by Deputy Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Debashish Bardhan has been formed to investigate the reason and damages of the fire incident.

The two injured persons – Parvin, 35, and Shahidul Islam, 20- are undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Parvin sustained 90% burn injuries, said the medical correspondent.
