The High Court on Wednesday banned printing and displaying laminated posters during city election to Dhaka's two corporations areas.
An HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mostafizur Rahman passed the suo moto order issuing a rule as two Supreme Court lawyers brought a newspaper report to the court's notice.
The lawyers--Barrister Manoj Kumar Bhoumik and Advocate Sulaiman Hawlader-- also sought necessary directives in this regard.
In the rule, the court wanted to know as to why the directives should not be given to stp display and printing of laminated posters.
The Election Commission and its secretary, secretaries to the ministries of local government, industries, health, and executive officers of the two city corporations and others concerned were made respondents to the rule and asked to give their explanation within four weeks.
On January 22, an English daily in its report on displaying laminated posters during the city corporation election said it causes environmental pollution.
The report said despite promising to build a clean and green Dhaka, the candidates are displaying posters covered in polythene.
