Prothom Alo Editor secures bail

The High Court on Monday granted four weeks anticipatory bail to Daily Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman in a case filed over the death of a student of Dhaka Residential Model College.
The court asked him to surrender before a lower court within this period.
At the same time, the HC court also ordered not to arrest or harass its Associate Editor Anisul Hoque and four others until the charge is framed.
An HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice AKM Jahirul Huq passed the order after the the newspaper editor and five others appeared before it for the second day today seeking bail.
Lawyer M Amir Ul Islam stood for the petitioners while Additional Attorney General Md Momtajuddin Fakir represented the state.
On Sunday, Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice AKM Jahirul Huq instructed the law enforcement agencies not to arrest them until the hearing on the anticipatory bail petition is held.
Naimul Abrar, 15, a class IX student of DRMC, died from electrocution at a function of the daily Prothom Alo's juvenile magazine 'Kishor Alo' on November 1, 2019.
His father lodged the case with Mohammadpur Police Station the next day.
