CPB bomb blast case: 10 to die A court in Dhaka on Monday awarded 10 militants death penalty in a case filed in connection with bomb blast at a CPB rally in city's Paltan area in 2001. Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge M Robiul Alam pronounced the verdict on Monday. The convicts are: Mufti Moin Uddin Sheikh, Arif Hasan Sumon, Mawlana Sabbir Ahmed, Shawkat Osman alias Sheikh Farid, Jahangir Alam Badar, Mohibul Muttakin, Aminul Mursalin, Mufti Abdul Hai, Mufti Shafiqur Rahman and Nur Islam. The court fined them Tk 20,000 each. Accused Mashiur Rahman and Rafiqul Alam Miraj are acquitted from charges. On December 2, 2019, the court fixed today to deliver its verdict after concluding the arguments of the both sides. Five people were killed and some injured in a bomb attack at the rally of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) in the area on January 20, 2001. TF/LY |
