The proverb that says “Nobody salutes the setting sun” became true in the life of a centenarian woman. At the old age, she was deserted by her own family members.

It was dead of night on December 29 last year. Two young men along with a centenarian woman by a rickshaw van came to at Rohonpur Rail Station in Gomostapur upazila of Chapainawabganj. Soon later, the men left the station leaving the woman behind under a tamarind tree near platform no-2.

Till then, 14 days have passed. But, no relations was found beside the old woman.

Later on Monday night, locals and journalists informed police about the sorrow state of the woman.

The woman was seen trembling in the biting cold when police members from Rohonpur Police Investigation Center went there to rescue her.

Sirajul Islam, a trader of the area, said, “I saw two people along with the woman came to the station by a rickshaw van. At first, I thought they might be passengers of a train. But early in the morning, I found the woman was left abandoned under the tamarind tree.”

The centenarian woman who is critically ill now is undergoing treatment at Gomostapur Upazila Health Complex.

Sub-inspector Abdul Malek and assistant sub-inspector Touhidul Islam of Rohonpur Police Investigation Center and DSB member Nurunnabi have extended their cooperation to take care of the woman.

The woman is counting her days silently at the health complex, and she is unable to speak for her health condition.
