Fazilatunnesa Bappy dies

Former member of parliament (MP) from reserved seat Fazilatunnesa Bappy passed away at a city hospital on Thursday morning. She was 49.
Bappy, also a prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) and former assistant attorney general, breathed her last around 8:30am at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital.
She was admitted to the hospital on December 28 with pneumonia and breathing problems. Bappy had been put on life support since December 29 at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following deterioration of her health condition.
Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik confirmed her death news.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed their deep shock at the demise of the former MP.
In separate messages, they prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and conveyed heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Meanwhile, Public Works and Housing Minister SM Rezaul Karim also condoled the death.
In a similar message, Rezaul Karim said the nation will ever remember her contribution to the judicial field specially as the prosecutor for the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).
