Anti-Corruption Commi-ssion (ACC) has begun to conduct a probe into corruption allegations against Manikganj's Singair Upazila Awami League Joint Secretary Shahidur Rahman.
The ACC began the inquiry on charge of possessing illegal assets earned beyond his known
source of income.
Shahid contested and was defeated in the last upazila election as AL candidate.
Allegations were brought against him by locals that Shahid earned a huge amount of illegal money by selling river land to a power company citing those as his own property.
Allegations were also there that he sold party posts of the local committees to outsiders.
When contacted, Shahidur Rahman told this correspondent that he hadn't earned any illegal money. He also denied that he had sold any land to any company.
"In last upazila election, I had contested with the AL ticket. However, a section of local AL leader opposed me. As a result, I was defeated. They are still opposing me," he added claiming that he himself is a businessman.
When contacted, ACC Manikganj's Deputy Director Dewan Saidur Rahman told this correspondent that they had initially started primary investigation into the allegations against Shahid after receiving the complaints.
Necessary steps will be taken, if the authority finds him guilty, he said.
According to the allegations, Shahid sold river land of around Tk 10 crore to a power generation company claiming it as his family property in 2018 in association with his aides Razu and Amzad.
A local land officer of Dhalla under the upazila filed a case against him the same year.
At the same time, he was also accused of illegal drugs trading. In this regard a Detective Branch report was submitted to the Superintendent of Police office in 2018.
