Dhaka outclass Sylhet by 24 runs
Dhaka Platoons ended 1st round of Bangabandhu BPL with a dominating 24-run victory over Sylhet Thunders at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
Sylhet took an orthodox decision to bowl first winning the toss against Dhaka Platoons, the strongest batting line up of the ongoing BPL bringing three changes in the squad. Andre Fletcher replaced Jeevan Medis in STs playing eleven. Delwar Hossain came in for Nazmul Hossain Milon and Shafiqullah Shafique took the place of Naveen Ul Haque.
Dhaka in the contrary, rested Shahid Afridi to bring in his home boy Shadab Khan while Ariful made comeback against Shovagoto Home and got a marvelous start from Tamim Iqbal and Anamul Haque Bijoy. They remained undivided till 9.3 overs with 85 runs to build a skyscraper for DPs. This is the highest opening partnership of the current BPL so far. Tamim assembled 31 runs before departing the crease. Bijoy on the other hand, picked up his half century from 33 balls, who amassed 62 runs from 42 deliveries with eight boundaries and one over boundary.
Laurie Evans scored 21, Jaker Ali collected 20 followed by twin unbeaten cameos from Thisara Perera (22 off 11) and Wahab Riaz (17 off 7) aided Dhaka to exceed their previous match's 180. DPs were stopped at 182 for four to set a new highest team's total of the tournament till date.
Hurrying mammoth 183, Sylhet started to score as quickly as they can but those runs were very costly since they were losing wickets at more quick rate. They lost four top order batsmen within powerplay to managed 54 runs.
Mosaddek Hossain's unbeaten 60 run's fight back was just to minimize the gap as Thunders were at 158 for seven after stipulated 20 overs. Mosaddek hit two massives and six boundaries in his 44 ball's innings.
Mashrafe and Mahmudul Hasan scalped two wickets each for DPs.
Anamul Bijo y of Dhaka Platoons named the Man of the Match for his batting glitz.
With this match, the 1st phase of Dhaka round of the Bangabandhu BPL came to an end. The event is scheduled to resume on December 17 with the battle between Rajshahi Royals and Khulna Tigers at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
Rajshahi Royals, Dhaka Platoons and Chattogram Challengers are flying to Chattogram bagging four points each. Khulna Tigers and Cumilla Warriors both managed two points by virtue of one wins apiece. Sylhet however, ended 1st Dhaka round remaining at the bottom of the point table losing three off three. Rangpur Rangers also remained pointless conceding defeats in both their clashes.
