Workers of nine state-owned jute mills in Khulna and Jashore have postponed their ongoing hunger strike for three days.
Platinum Jute Mills CBA general secretary Humayun Kabir said they postponed the strike following an assurance given by the State Minister of Labour and Employment Ministry in a meeting.
The workers, who started the hunger strike on December 10 to press home their 11-point demand, withdrew the hunger strike around 1am on Saturday.
The mills CBA president Shahana Sharmin said they will again start their strike from December 17 if their demands are not implemented in the meeting on December 15.
More workers of the mills fell sick on Friday amidst their fast-unto-death. On Thursday, Abdur Sattar, 55, a worker of Platinum Jute Mills, fell sick and died at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).
