Outpost in-charge among 14 cops withdrawn
Some 14 police personnel of Gazipur's Ulukhola police outpost, including its in-charge Rupan Chandra Rai, have been withdrawn over early Tuesday's robbery that committed in seven shops in a market, 180 metres away from the outpost.
They all have been taken to Gazipur Police Lines.
SI Rupan Chandra told media on Wednesday afternoon that a new team is going to replace them.
But he did not provide further information in this regard.
Those cops were withdrawn, including a sub-inspector, two assistant sub-inspectors, a havildar and 10 constables.
Earlier on Tuesday night, Dipankar Chandra Das, owner of one of the looted shop Rupashree jewellers, filed a case with Kaliganj Police Station in this connection accusing 15/16 unnamed people, said OC AKM Mizanul Haque.
Inspector Sohel Rana is investigating the case.
Earlier, a gang of 30-40 robbers wearing police uniform stormed Ulukhola market early Tuesday. They looted around 55 tolas of gold ornament and 340 tolas of silver ornament from five jewellery shops and Tk 2.45 lakh in cash from a pick-up van of a poultry farm in Ulukhola Bazar.
Locals alleged that the robbery would not be committed if the outpost in-charge sub-inspector Rupan Chandra was on duty.
