Jute mill workers threaten to continue hunger strike

Workers of nine state-owned jute mills in Khulna and Jashore have threatened to continue their ongoing hunger strike until their 11-point demand are met.
The workers went on an indefinite hunger strike on Tuesday noon which entered for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.
But some of them fell sick due to cold wave.
The 11-point demand includes cancellation of public-private ownership of the jute mills, allotting necessary fund for jute sector and others.
On Tuesday, around 50 thousand workers of Star, Platinum, Crescent, Alim, Eastern, Daulatpur and Khalishpur jute mills in Khulna and JJI and Carpeting jute mills in Jashore took position in front of main entrances of the jute mills and started the strike programme at 3pm.
The agitating workers said they are leading inhumane life as they are not paid wages. The situation forced them to go on strike.
