S K Sinha charged with embezzlement

Former chief justice Surendra Sinha has been charged with embezzlement of Tk 4 crore of the Farmers Bank Limited.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) official Benzir Ahmed on Monday submitted the chargesheet against the former chief justice and 10 others before the court of Dhaka's senior special judge KM Imrul Kayesh.
ACC general registration officer in the court Md Julfikar confirmed the matter.
Charged 10 others are: Farmers Bank's (now Padma Bank) audit committee chairman Mahbubul Haque Chishti alias Babul Chisti, former MD of the bank AKM Shamim, former SIVP Gazi Salauddin, first vice presidents Swapan Kumar Roy, Safiuddin Askari, vice president Md Lutful Haque, and Md Shahjahan, Niranjan Chandra Saha, Ranjit Saha as well as his Santri Roy from Tangail.
The anti-graft body has recommended to acquit Md Zia Uddin AHmed, former manager of Farmers Bank's Gulshan branch, from the charges.
Earlier, around 4 crore was seized from SK Sinha's account following an application made by the investigation officer.
On July 10 this year ACC director Syed Iqbal Hossain lodged a case against the former chief justice and 10 others on charge of misappropriating Tk 4 crore from then Farmers Bank.
