Youth stabbed dead by rivals

A young man was stabbed to death allegedly by his rivals during a village arbitration in Sadar upazila of Jashore on Monday night.

Deceased  Johny, 22, was the son of Sirajul Islam, a resident of Narendrapur village in the upazila.

Deceased family said the Narendrapur union Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) president Shahim Alam had been at loggerhead with the former BCL president GM Sabuj Hasan over soil trade.

A village arbitration was held at night to resolve the dispute. At one stage of the meeting, some supporters of Shahin called Johny, a supporter of GM Sabuj, and stabbed on his chest, leaving him dead on the spot.

After the incident, Shahin and his supporters escaped the spot.

Being informed by locals, police recovered the body and sent it to a hospital morgue, said Kotwali Model Police Station officer in-charge Moniruzzaman.
