The High Court (HC) has issued a rule on the role of authorities concerned to protect hills and sea beach in Cox's Bazar.
The bench of justices M Enayetur Rahim and Md Mostafizur Rahman on Monday passed the order during a hearing on a writ petition filed by Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA).
The Cabinet Secretary, the environment secretary, the aviation and tourism secretary, the housing and public works secretary, public administration secretary, water resources secretary, and others concerned were asked to respond to the rule.
The court also wanted to know why the respondents should not be directed to protect hills and hill forests in Sadar, Maheshkhali, Teknaf, Ramu, Chakaria, Ukhiya and Pekua upazilas of the district from any kind of change, transformation, cutting or destruction.
In the rule, the court also wanted to know why direction should not be given to remove or destroy polluting, illegal and not approved establishments in sea beach and reserved areas.
