Pennsylvania AL expels rape accused leader

Awami League Pennsylvania, US, unit expelled a leader from the party following he was arrested in a rape case.

Expelled Lutfar Rahman Himu, 31, is the organizing secretary of the unit. New York police arrested him on December 1.

Local Awami League and Jubo League leaders took the decision of expulsion in a meeting on Saturday.

Pennsylvania State AL president freedom fighter Abu Taher disclosed the expulsion on Sunday, reports a Bangla online news portal.

Himu was a leader of Khulna BL College unit Islamic Chhatra Shibir before he came in US in 2013. His father Abdul Quader Khan is also an organizer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

Amid scrutinizing the information, Himu was arrested on charge of raping a woman at a hotel in New York, said Abu Taher.
