SSC examinee 'commits suicide' in Manikganj

A Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee reportedly committed suicide in Sadar upazila of Manikganj on Sunday evening in a huff as her mother rebuked her.

Deceased Sadia Afrin, 15, was a Business Studies student of Lemubari Binoda Shundori High School. She was the daughter of Saudi Arabia expatriate Abdus Salam, a resident of Terdona village in the upazila.

Quoting family members, Sadar Police Station officer in-charge Raqibuzzaman said Sadia hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her room in the evening.

Later, she died on the way to a local hospital.

The victim's family said Sadia’s mother often rebuked her for study. For this, she might have committed suicide, they said.

Police, however, handed over the body to the family without autopsy following their request.
