Barishal freed today
BARISHAL, Dec 7: Barishal City and other parts of the district were freed from Pakistani occupation forces on December 8, 1971.
Enayet Hossen Chowdhury, a freedom fighter of Barishal, said after capturing Barisal Town on April 25, 1971, the Pakistani army set up their regional headquarters on the then Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) office premises considering its convenience in connecting the spot by road and water.
They set up bunkers, torture cell, mass killing ground and mini-cantonment there.
After liberating Barisal town and district on December 8, 1971, the occupation army and their collaborators fled from the area.
To commemorate the Barishal Freedom Day, Barishal City Corporation set up a monument in t Amtala area of the city in 2009.
Kutubuddin Ahmed, District Muktijoddha Sangsad commander, demanded justice over the genocide and the crime against humanity.
