Govt starts procuring paddy in Feni

FENI, Dec 7: District Food Department has started procuring paddy from farmers in Sadar Upazila of the district from Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner Md Wahiduzzaman inaugurated the programme on food godown premises in Rail Gate area of the town at noon.
Sources said the government will buy 6,894 metric tons of paddy at Tk 26 per kg from the district.
Among others, Police Super (Sadar Circle) Ataur Rahman, and Acting Food Officer Shahid Uddin Mahmudm were present in the programme.  
The programme was started through collecting paddy from a total of 1,700 registered farmers in Sadar Upazila. The campaign will continue in the district till February 28 of 2020. The government will collect one MT of paddy from each registered farmer.
Farmer Dalilur Rahman of Fatehpur Village in Sadar Upazila said the amount of paddy to be collected here is very meagre than the total production in the district.
If the amount of collection could be increased, farmers would recover their losses in the cultivation, said the farmers.
