BCL leader held with arms and drugs

Members of Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) have detained a local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League alongwith arms and Yaba tablets from Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar district on Tuesday night.

Detainee Motaleb Farhad, 25, is the Hnila union BCL secretary. He was  a resident of  Paschim Leda area in the upazila.

On information that a big consignment of Yaba tablets was smuggled into the country from Myanmar through the Naf River border, a BGB team conducted a drive at Leda Sporting Club on Wednesday night and nabbed Motaleb.

The BGB members recovered two firearms and three bullets from his possession and the contra banned pill from inside the club, said BGB-2 Battalion commanding officer Lt Col Mohammad Faisal Hasan Khan in a press briefing on Thursday afternoon.

Two cases were filed under the Narcotics Control and Arms acts with Teknaf Model Police Station and he was handed over to the police station, the BGB official added.
