A video of an Indian woman has gone viral on the Internet and it blasts the ideology that a woman should stay at home because the society is not safe.
The viral video was shared on Twitter by user Natasha, with the handle @nuts2406. She shared the clip with the caption, "This is the voice of the women of India. 'I don't want men to safeguard me. I want to say you are the cause of the problem. You stay behind. Let the world be free.' How long can we continue ignoring her?"
In the video, the elderly woman can be seen holding a placard with the text 'She got raped' and 'He raped her' written on it. The text 'She got raped' had a box with a cross on it and the 'He raped her' had a box with a tick in front of it. The placard also had the #ChangeTheNarrative written on it.
Her placard signified that the narrative around rape should not be that a woman got raped, but, it should be that the man raped her, reports India Today.
In the clip, she can be heard saying, "Why should a woman stay at home after 7 PM, why not the man? Let us make it an institutionalised thing. Let all men come home at 7 PM and lock themselves behind the doors. Then we women will be safe. I don’t want to say, 'a police should safeguard me or I want my brother to safeguard me or a man to safeguard me.' I want to say, 'the cause of the problem is you. You stay behind. You stay back at home and let this world be free.'"
The video started a debate on the internet. Many netizens also praised her for coming out and saying what every Indian woman is trying to say.
After the video was shared online it garnered over 14.2k views and was shared over 1k times on Twitter.
This video comes after the horrofic gangrape and murder of a 26-year-old veterinary surgeon in Shamshabad, Hyderabad. The veterinary doctor was raped by four men, who had punctured the rear wheel of her scooter and on the pretence of offering her help dragged her to a secluded spot close to a toll plaza and gangraped her.
The doctor's charred body was found on Thursday morning at around 7 am.
The incident recieved nationwide outrage and demaded that officials take measures to make the society safer for women.
