11 killed in road mishaps in eight districts

Eleven persons were killed and two others injured in separate road accidents in eight districts- Rangpur, Tangail, Khulna, Sherpur, Joypurhat, Mymensingh, Bhola and Barishal, in three days.
MITHAPUKUR, RANGPUR: Two students were killed in a road accident in Shathibari Mahiarpur area under Mithapukur Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Sabbir Hossen, a student of class eleven at Shathibari College, and Al Farabi, a student of nursery class at Shathibari Kobi Nazrul Bidyapith. They hailed from Mahiarpur Village in the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mithapukur Police Station (PS) Jafar Ali Biswas said an illegal sand-laden tractor dashed a motorcycle carrying the two students in the said area, leaving both dead on the spot.
Later, police recovered the body from the spot.
Following the incident, locals torched the tractor.
MIRZAPUR, TANGAIL: A garments worker was crushed under a speeding truck in Hatubhanga area under Mirzapur Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.
Deceased Md Alhaz Uddin, 30, was the son of Saber Mondal of Ragabari Village in Ullahpara Upazila of Sirajganj District. He was a knitting operator at Comfit Composite Mill in Gorai of Tangail.
Eyewitnesses said the deceased was going to his workplace early in the morning. At that time, a truck dashed him, leaving him dead on the spot.
Sub-Inspector of Mirzapur PS Md Rubel Hossen said they recovered the body, and seized the truck but its driver managed to flee.
DUMURIA, KHULNA: A covered van driver was killed in an accident on Khulna-Satkhira Highway in Kartikdanga area under Kharnia Union in Dumuria Upazila of the district early Wednesday.
Sources said the driver Abdul Kader, 55, was killed on the spot after he lost over the covered van and it fell in a roadside ditch in the said area.
Being informed, fire fighters from Khulna recovered the body and handed it over to Kharnia Highway Police.
Later, police sent the body to Khulna Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
NALITABARI, SHERPUR: A helper of a lorry was crushed under the vehicle and two others were injured at Paschim Sameschura Village in Nalitabari Upazila of the district on Tuesday afternoon.
Deceased Mamun Mia, 16, was the son of Yusuf Ali of the village.
The injured are: lorry driver Aminul Islam, 28, and another helper Yunus
Ali, 30.
Eyewitnesses said the lorry driver was driving his timber-laden vehicle towards Sameschura Bazaar in the afternoon. On the way, the lorry turned turtle on the road, leaving Mamun Mia crushed under it and dead on the spot.
Second Officer of Nalitabari PS Ripon Chandra Sarker confirmed the incident.
JOYPURHAT: A woman and her five-year-old daughter were crushed under a truck in Sadar Upazila of the district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Rifa Akhter, 24, wife of Nur Alam of Sundarpur area in the upazila, and her daughter Anika.
Sadar PS OC Shahriar Khan said a truck ran over them in Zolatul intersection at 9:30am, leaving them dead on the spot.
MYMENSINGH: A police official and his brother-in-law were killed in an accident on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Roymoni area under Trishal Upazila of the district early Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Aminul Islam, 32, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Fulbaria PS in Mymensingh, and the son of late Abul Kalam of Shonir Akhra area in capital Dhaka, and his brother-in-law Md Jahidul Islam, 27, son of Shafiqul Islam of Dakatia area in Bhaluka Upazila of Mymensingh.
Quoting locals, Md Azizur Rahman, OC of Trishal PS, said ASI Aminul was going to his in-law's house in Bhaluka, and Jahidul was driving the private car.
On the way, in the said area, the car skidded off the road after hitting the road divider and fell into a roadside pond, leaving the two dead on the spot, said the OC.
On information, police and fire fighters recovered the bodies and sent those to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsies.
CHAR FASSON, BHOLA: A construction worker was crushed under a three-wheeler in Char Fasson Upazila of the district on Monday night.
Deceased Sumon, 25, was the son of Anwarul Islam of Barguna District.
Locals said Sumon was crossing a road in Sharekkhali area of the upazila. At that time, a three-wheeler dashed him, leaving him seriously injured.
He was rushed to Upazila Health Complex where he was declared dead.
Dakkhin Aicha PS OC Harun-or-Rashid said the body was handed over to the victim's family without autopsy.
BARISHAL: A former member of Bangladesh Army was killed in an accident on Barishal-Banaripara Road in Banaripara Upazila of the district on Monday morning.
Deceased Saidul Islam Swapan was the son of late Sheikh A. Aziz of Maderkati Village in the upazila.
Locals said the deceased was going to Gutia area riding a motorcycle. On the way at Narayanpur Bazaar, the bike collided head-on with a speeding three-wheeler, leaving him seriously injured.
He was rushed to Banaripara Upazila Health Complex, where he was declared dead.
Following the accident, locals blocked the road, causing snap to vehicular movement. Later, police intervened and cleared the blockade after one and a half hours.
