Rakibul Hasan Regan, who received death penalty in the Holey Artisan attack case verdict, claimed that an unidentified man gave him the cap with emblem of the Islamic State (IS) from crowd.
He made the claim to Dhaka Anti-Terrorism Tribunal judge Mojibor Rahman on Tuesday after he and five other condemned convicts among seven were produced before the tribunal
During this, judge Mojibor Rahman questioned Regan about source of the 'IS cap'. He replied, "Someone gave me 'IS cap' from crowd."
The judge also questioned who was the cap provider, he said, "I don't know him."
Whether the cap was given to any other person- in such query from the judge, Regan said, "No but condemned convict Jahangir Hossain alias Rajib Gandhi wore the same cap after I got on the prison van."
Regan also said he wore the cap because he liked it after judge Mojibor Rahman questioned him why he took the cap.
On November 27, two militants Rakibul Hasan Regan and Jahangir Alam alias Rajib Gandhi were seen wearing caps with emblem of the Islamic State (IS) on the court premises after death sentence were pronounced against the duo and five others in the Holey Artisan attack case verdict.
Militants killed 20 innocent people, most of them foreigners, in the grisly attack in Holey Artisan Bakery in city's upscale Gulshan area on July 1, 2016. Two police officials valiantly laid down their lives while trying to save people there.
