A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Islampur upazila of Jamalpur early Tuesday.

Deceased Mohammad Ali alias Ali Dakat, was an accused in 11 cases, including of murder, robbery and arms, filed with different Police Stations, police said.

The law enforcers arrested Ali, also the former UP member, from Projapatir Char area on Monday evening, said Islampur Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Abdullah AL Mamun.

According to his confessional statements, a team of the police alongwith Ali conducted a drive in Kutilar Char around 3:00am to recover arms.

The team recovered a revolver and 500 Yaba pills from there.

But Ali's cohorts started firing on the policemen when the team was returning to the Police Station that forced them to fire back in self-defence, the OC added.
