Bangladesh clinches one-gold, 12 bronze medals on Monday


Bangladesh clinched one gold and twelve bronze medals on the 2nd day of the 13th South Asian Games from two disciplines of sports --Taekwondo and Karate-- held at Satdobata Sports Complex in Nepal till 9:15 pm on Monday.

Rangamati-born Dipu Chakma won the first gold medal for Bangladesh in men’s individual Poomsae (above 29 years age group) Taekwondo in the ongoing SA Games securing 8.110 points that began on Monday, UNB reports.

Sri Lanka’s Lakshman IIandarige won the event’s silver while Gangphung Gangsa of India took the bronze .
 
Apart from a gold medal, Bangladeshi athletes also won six more bronze medals each in Taekwondo and Karate on the day.
 
Earlier, Humayra Akhter won the first medal--a bronze--for Bangladesh in Karate in the women’s singles Kata. Pakistan won the event’s gold and Nepal secured the silver.

Six bronze medalists of Bangladesh in Taekwondo are: Anika Akhter in Women’s Individual Poomsae (under 29 years) and Nurul Nahar Akhter (Under 29 years), Kamrul Islam in men’s Individual Poomsae (U-23 years) and Mehedi Hasan (U-29 years), Nooruddin Hussain and Ruma Khatun Pair Poomsae (U-23), Dipa Chakma and Mousume (above 29).

Six bronze medalist of Bangladesh in Karate are: Arif, Shaheed, Manowar (men’s team event Kata), Karima, Nu May and Hla (Women’s team event Kata), Hasan Khan (men’s singles kata) and Kumaira Akhter Khan (women’s singles Kata), Atiqur Rahman (men’s 84 kgs) and Anwara Iqra (women’s 45 kgs).





Hosts Nepal dominating the medal table of the games securing eleven gold, two silver and six bronze medals while holders India followed them with three gold, eight silver and three bronze medals.
