Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has started purging drive inside the party aiming to form committees involving dedicated leaders, removing the hybrid ones from the party.
“None will be allowed to form pocket committee after assuming the power. Those, who want to do politics of AL, have to love the party and its grassroots level leaders and activists,” he said while addressing the triennial council of the Patuakhali district AL unit as the chief guest here.
Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said it is not possible to become a leader overnight spending millions through hoisting banners and festoons during councils.
So, it would be better to expend money for the poor activists of the party instead of spending for the banners and festoons, he added.
AL Central Working Committee Member and Convener of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Peace Accord Implementation Committee Abul Hasnat inaugurated the council with district AL’s outgoing President Advocate Md Shahjahan Miah in the chair.
AL Organizing Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim addressed the council as the chief speaker while AL Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif and Abdur Rahman, Information and Research Secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain, International Affairs Secretary Dr Shammi Ahmed, Deputy Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua and Central Working Committee Member Golam Rabbani Chinu addressed the council as special guests.
